Case Study: McLaren Construction

McLaren Construction

The Client

McLaren Construction is an award-winning contractor with an established reputation for consistent delivery of outstanding projects across all market sectors.

McLaren was responsible for constructing the new build distribution warehouse Project Dragonfly in Erith, for the UK’s only online supermarket, Ocado.

The Challenge

To provide Two-Way Radio communications at each site for site wide coverage. Often, the nature of the building work requires communication both above and below ground. Essential communication is provided between crane operatives and banksmen which also has health and safety implications.

In addition to the site issues of communication, the situation is further compounded by the fact that most sites are in or around the London area where the hire frequency spectrum is used throughout.

The Solution

In each case, Motorola DP4400 or DP4400e radios were supplied to site.

The radios hired to the various sites are programmed with both digital and analogue frequencies so that there are multiple channel options for the end users in a typically crowded spectrum environment.
Training has been provided on site where necessary along with guidance in the use of different channels where interference has been detected.

When necessary, site visits have been made to ensure the radio coverage is as would be expected. The essential nature of the communication required at site means that any problems must be dealt with very quickly, even when the problem is perceived rather than real.
